In the early 1900’s aviation was the Internet of its day. Not merely because it represented the latest and sexiest technology on the planet, but because it would connect people across the world in ways previously impossible.
The idea of flight fascinated people, and this aerial romance saw intrepid aviation entrepreneurs take to the skies in all manner of contraptions. Known as “The Magnificent Men”, they were immortalized in Ken Annakin’s 1965 British Comedy “Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines”. This epic of the silver screen won many awards, not least for its unforgettable jingle-style theme music:
Those magnificent men in their flying machines,
They go up, tiddly, up, up, they go down diddley down-down!
Now in 2011, nearly 100 years since those early days of aviation, there’s a new breed of Magnificent Men: intrepid business aviators, zagging the cyber-skies in search of ever more wonderful ways to connect people. Through these amazing flights more and more organsiations are linking with their customers and immortalizing their brands through creative and engaging marketing solutions.
Now all we need is the witty little ditty.
Why we chose the name Hurricane
Everybody knows the Hawker Hurricane played a decisive role in winning the Battle of Britain, but what’s often forgotten today is how unlikely that victory seemed at the time. Outnumbered and outgunned by the enemy, the Hurricane prevailed thanks to a mixture of superior strategy, game-changing technological innovation and absolute fearlessness in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s a humbling and inspirational story – so inspirational, we named our agency after it.
